How I manage burnout and anxiety

How I manage burnout and anxiety If you are feeling the wear and tear of constantly being in the ‘grind’, your risk of burning out and suffering from anxiety are HIGH. Today I’m sharing my helpful tips to prevent burnout and reduce anxiety.

Rest

Anxiety can give you a false sense of energy which is actually just adrenaline. Adrenaline is fake energy. It does not serve you in the long haul, and you are definitely pushing your body past its limit.

Prioritizing rest is critical to recover from burnout and to manage anxiety. Until you give your body a chance to slow down, you will never truly exit the vicious cycle of: stress, exhaustion, constantly worry, burnout, and repeat.

Walking

I make it a priority to walk everyday for as long as I can. Instead of sitting on the couch, or driving in my car, I make sure to get outside everyday and walk. The best part about walking is the accessible nature of this form of movement. As long as you have shoes, you can go anywhere.

Walking is an excellent way to force your body and mind to slow down. Leave your phone at time, try not to look at your watch, and take pleasure in your time outside. When I walk I try to focus on my surroundings and I find enjoyment in colours, textures, and smells I encounter outdoors.

Water

Coffee and other caffeinated products are stimulants. These will worsen your anxiety and can make your heartbeat increase rapidly in your chest. This is the opposite of what your body needs right now.

Instead of picking coffee, or any pops, I rely on water. It is more hydrating than any other beverage, and it is very gentle on my system. If I ever get bored, I add fresh fruit or lemon juice to naturally enhance the flavour without relying on harmful chemicals or processed sugars.

Supplements

I take supplements to strengthen my adrenal glands. I have had success with these products and you may also want to try them in the future.

Your adrenal glands are responsible for releasing adrenaline, and other hormones related to your fight or flight response. When you are anxious, your adrenal glands are always ON. You can imagine how fatiguing this would be over time.

Meditation is the other way I handle my burn out

Meditation is an ancient practice that has stuck around for a reason, it works! There are so many forms of meditation, you just have to find the right technique that works for you.

Sitting in stillness is one of the most popular versions of meditating, as depicted in Hollywood films, but it is not the only way. Many people meditate through movement! This is why Yoga and Pilates are so restorative for the body and the mind.

Mediating allows you to go within, and provide rest to your internal system and core essence. I strongly encourage everyone to try meditating even 5 minutes a day!

I hope you found these tips helpful. As a reminder, if your body is feeling run down and drained, it might be time to take some time for yourself. Not only will this help with productivity in the long term but also improve mental health in general. It takes bravery to stop everything we are doing and just sit still; however, as someone who has taken many breaks myself over my career I can say that they have always been incredibly productive!

Sending you all hugs

Love you all, mean it
