DIY: How To Make your own Pilates 2×4!

Looking to add a little Pilates into your life but don't want to invest in pricey equipment? Have no fear! In this blog post, I will teach you how to make your very own Pilates 2×4. This is a great way to save money and get the most out of your Pilates routine. All you need is a few simple supplies that you may already have at home. Let's get started!

Don't be alarmed. After you use this tiny device, you may notice your butt muscles working!

  • 2″x4″ board approximately 18″long (Gratz measurement ).Ours measured about 2′ in length. We found ours in my Dad's garage!

  • A rubber yoga mat. You can check your local thrift stores for a used one if you don't have an old one kicking around.

  • scissors that can cleanly cut a yoga mat

  • a staple gun

  • a small hammer

  • We also enforced ours with a screw but this is not necessary

let’s get started:

1: Our yoga mat's width was ideal for covering our 2×4 and yet leaving enough overlap to cover both ends.

Wrap the board in the yoga mat first to measure the length. Make sure there is sufficient coverage by not making the fabric overlap excessively.

2: Use the board and yoga mat texture as a guide to cut a straight line. Set aside the excess cloth for future 2x4s.

3. Place the 2×4 along the edge of the yoga mat leaving just enough selvage to overlap when it is wrapped.

4. Secure the edge of the yoga mat to the 2×4 board with a few staples.

There should not be any gaps where the mat pulls away from the board, but this edge will be under a top layer of overlap.

To decrease bulk and make room for more precise placement of staples on the completed side, place less staples on this underside.

Step #5: Using a staple gun, securely fasten the 2×4 board to the yoga mat.

Keep the mat smooth as you wrap it. After the first set of staples, pull the yoga mat tight and keep it that way while stapling the second set.

Keep in mind that these staples will be the final finish on your 2x4 structure. Use the hammer to smash the staples into place, so they don't protrude.

Staple the 2x4's length to complete the wrapping.

Now say hello to strong feet and butt muscles!!

There you have it! Your very own Pilates-friendly device that won't cost you an arm and a leg. This is a great way to add some extra resistance to your workout routine without breaking the bank.
